The 1 MN MTS closed-loop servo-hydraulic load frame provides a vast ability to apply axial loading for determining the poroelastic properties, conducting flow measurements, and strength characterization for reservoir and caprock materials. The large capacity allows us to simulate the extreme in-situ conditions or external loading for testing.


  • Uniaxial Compression Strength (UCS): With sufficient strain gauges installed to the specimen, the UCS can be measured with the Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio during the loading/unloading of elastic deformation. During the failure test, AE sensors can also be instrumented.


  • Triaxial Compression test: With the Hooke’s cell or the advanced triaxial cell, the strength parameters can be determined with different confining pressures.
