CEE 586 – Rock Mechanics and Behavior

Course Information: 4 graduate hours. Prerequisite: CEE 483 Soil Mechanics and Behavior and TAM 451 Intermediate Solid Mechanics.

Rock classification, stress and strain, elastic and inelastic deformation, failure criteria, rock-fluid interaction, poroelasticity, fluid flow in rock, thermal effect on rock deformation, geo-energy applications.

CEE 380 – Geotechnical Engineering

Course Information: 4 undergraduate hours. Prerequisite: TAM 251 Introductory Solid Mechanics.

Classification of soils, compaction in the laboratory and in the field, soil exploration, boring and sampling, permeability of soils, one-dimensional settlement analyses, strength of soil, and foundations.
